CONVENTO
OF SAN PEDRO CLAVER: Located in the
Saint Peter Plaza where San Pedro Claver lived and his remains are kept
in an urn in the lower altar of the church.
BODEGÓN
OF LA CANDELARIA: An important work
of Colonial architecture.

SANTO
DOMINGO CHURCH: Colonial relic from
the XVI century. The outside of the church is of the Renaissance style
and the altar Baroque. An integral part of the historic zone of Cartagena,
located in the Santo Domingo Plaza.
CONVENT
OF SANTA CLARA: Located in the Plaza
San Diego, there is permanent access to the convent which is an important
work of religious architecture in the city. It's considered to be one
of the most important historical monuments next to the walls that enclose
the city of Cartagena de Indias.

SAN
FELIPE'S CASTLE:
One of the principle attractions of the city,
this castle was a walled fort constructed by the Spanish to defend the
city against pirate attacks.
MOMPOX

HOUSE
OF CULTURE: A beautiful example of civil
architecture. You can visit Monday to Saturday from 7:30 am to 5:00
pm.
HOUSE
OF TE DEUM: Its name comes from the
Latin inscription that its owner, Pedro Martinez de Pinillos, order
engraved ""Té Deum Laudamus Te Dominum". The first canticle
verse to praise the Lord.
HOME
OF THE PORTALES OF THE MARQUESA DE TORREHOYOS:
This group of four homes constitutes, undoubtedly, a permanent attraction
in the city. On top of giving the name to the area located in front
of them, these homes stand out for the entrances and the outdoor galleries
that surround the outside of the homes. They have a unique architectural
style compared to the homogenous silhouette of the city. Open to the
public.
HOME
OF THE RECUERDO: Today this home
is used as a retirement home. Built between 1806 and 1809, it's located
on the Calle Real in front of the Iglesia de San Agustin next to the
Casa de la Cultura.

CASAS
BAJAS AND CASAS ALTAS: These two
buildings are located on the Calle Real in front of the Plaza de San
Carlos (near the School of the Compania). They were once owned by high-society
Momposinas (people from Mompox). The most significant of the two is
the casa baja, that owes its name to the fact it only has one story,
adorned by a great number of ornamental elements unique not only to
Mompox but also to Colombia.
LA
CASA ALTA: Located on the corner
of the Calle 19 (where the prison and city hall meet), its two stories
reveal how the house was built in stages -- or, better stated, how the
house was built onto over the years. Outside, balconies predominate
the building with independent covers Cartagena-style.
SAN
ANSELMO FORT: It was possibly constructed
as a warehouse or arms deposit. It was given the title "fort"
during the re conquest of Don Pablo Morillo.
ALBARRADAS:
Meaning "walls of protection", this is edification has been
modified and is now a place for the river to pass. It was constructed
to control the run of the river waters.



ARQUITECTURE

MONEY
HOUSE : Colonial architecture, open
during working hours, it conserves the look of its original construction.
LA
ESCOLLERA: Located between Bocagrande
and Tierra Bomba, this is a military work of architecture that used
to be part of the defense system of the city in the old days. It's an
underground wall that impedes the navigation of big ships.

WALLED
ZONE : The walls encircle the center
of the city and make up its historical zone. They circle the neighborhoods
San Diego and Getsemani Center and extend over 11 km and are 15 mt thick.
The walls are crowned by 22 bulwarks that have the names of Saints and
are endowed with galleries and underground tunnels in which the troops
kept ammunition.

BÓVEDAS:
Located in the walled city, in the Plaza of the Bóvedas. They
are pieces of military architecture. In 1789, the engineer Lorenzo de
Solis projected the edifice of "rooms, storage of goods and ammunition."

IGLESIA
EL CABRERO: Located in the entrance
of the Cabrero neighborhood. In this chapel the remains of the poet
and president Don Rafael Núñez are kept. Moreover, next
to the church is the home and grounds of Don Rafael Núñez,
called Apolo Park.

CATEDRAL:
Located in the Plaza de Bolívar in the Historic zone of the city,
the Cathedral is magnificently and sumptuously decorated with marble
altars, images and statues covered in gold, a neoclassical altar, carved
in wood and finished in gold.

IGLESIA
SANTO DOMINGO: Located in the historic
zone in the Plaza of Santo Domingo, this is a colonial relic from the
XVI Century. A renaissance outside and Baroque altar laminated in gold.
MOMPOX
SANTA
BÁRBARA CHURCH: The balcony is undoubtedly the most impressive
element of the church. Permanent access to the public on Sundays and
Holidays from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. It's located in Mompox Plaza.
CHURCH
OF THE CONCEPCIÓN: In the
interior pay close attention to several details, among them the way
in which the central nave is covered using the framework of a pair of
knuckles. Permanent access from 6:00 to 12 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Located
in the Mompox Plaza.
SANTO
DOMINGO CHURCH: Constructed as a
straw-colored temple for the order of the Dominican Monks -- the first
to evangelize Christianity in America. Years later its ceilings were
covered in bricks that remained until August 19, 1846 when it collapsed.
Ten years later, in 1856, the temple was restored. In the Santo Domingo
temple, every Thursday of Pains, a procession takes place with the image
of Jesus. Permanent access from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.
SAN
JUAN DE DIOS CHURCH: Constructed
in the SVII century, the church was the official church of Saint Thursday,
before Easter Sunday -- the mass for the sick and pained given during
Easter WEek in Mompox. Permanent access from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm.

WATCH
TOWER: Also called the door of the
watch, here is the principal port of the city from 1631, located in
the Plaza of the Coches. Permanent access. A civil work of architecture
constructed at the beginning of the 18th century (1704) by Juan de Herrera.

POPA HILL: Permanent access by land.
168 mt above sea level. It was a landmark for explorers and discoverers
to look for as from behind, for a great distance, t can be seen from
the sea.

MUSEUM
OF GOLD: Here you can enjoy an exhibit
of the oldest cultures from Colombia: Tayrona, Sinú, Muisca,
Calíma Quimbaya, Tolima and Nariño.
ARCHEOLOGICAL
MUSEUM: Located in the palace of
the Inquisition in the Historical Zone of the city. It has pieces of
pre Colombian art and ceramics from all pre-Colombian cultures found
within Colombia.
COLONIAL
MUSEUM : Located in the Palace of
the Inquisition on the second floor, it has pieces related to the time
of the inquisition and military elements -- the rooms of the inquisitor
and torture chambers.
MUSEUM
OF MODERN ART: Located in the municipal
palace, constructed in the Colonial area, it forms part of the urbanization
of the Plaza of San Pedro Claver.

MONUMENT
TO OLD SHOES: A sculpture located
in the Cabrero. This monument was built in honor of Don Luis López
, "The One-Eyed", the famous poet from Cartagena, known for
his poem "Zapatos Viejos".

MONUMENT
TO THE CATALINA INDIAN: Located on
Venezuela Avenue, it's one of the most modern monuments of the city.
Elaborated in bronze by a Spanish sculptor Eladio Gil Zambrano in 1974.
3 meters high, the image of the Indian is used to give the awards of
the International Festival of Cine held in Cartagena each year. Catalina
symbolizes the indigenous races of Indo America and the height of the
American woman.

PLAZA
DE LOS COCHES: This is the first
place you will find when you pass through the door of the watchtower.
Hundreds of years ago, it was used as the market of slaves. Plaza del
Juez, del Rollo, del Mercader and del Ecuador were the former names
of the Plaza de los Coches.
FISHERMAN'S
WALK : A work created to recognize
and honor fishermen from Cartagena -- people of the utmost importance
to the city.
BOLÍVAR
PARK : Called Bolivar Park since
1896, the year in which the statue of the Liberator was raised. It's
also known as the Plaza Mayor, Plaza de la Catedral and Plaza de la
Inquisición.
CENTENARIO
PARK : Inaugurated in 1911, the architect
of this park was Luis Felipe Jaspe to commemorate Cartagena's 100 years
of independence.

The archipelago of the islands has one of the
most beautiful collections of corals in Latin América.

Located 30 km from Mompox with an area of 2600 square Km. It's a tropical
plain that can be accessed by land or river.
